Hydro MicroScreen™ saves Michigan cereal manufacturer $2M in construction costs
Hydro MicroScreen™ helped a Michigan cereal manufacturing plant to avoid a huge investment while still upgrading their wastewater treatment capability.
Problem
A large cereal manufacturer in Battle Creek, MI was looking to expand their on-site wastewater treatment system to meet growing demand for their product. Their ageing system was failing to prevent sewer surcharge fees and they were ready for an upgrade.
They requested bids for a new rotary drum screen, dissolved air flotation, dewatering screw press, flocculent and coagulant dosing system, sludge pumps and belt filter press, but the quotes they received came in at $1.5 million over budget.
Solution
The cereal manufacturer contacted Hydro International and arranged a demonstration of the Hydro MicroScreen™ rotating belt screen at their plant under typical operating conditions to validate performance.
Outcome
The system delivered better performance than conventional technologies in a fraction of the footprint, and the demonstration unit performed so well that the plant purchased a full operation Hydro MicroScreen™ to replace multiple steps in their proposed treatment solution.
Installing the Hydro MicroScreen™ system saved over $2M in construction costs that would have been required had the plant chosen alternative technologies, as well as reducing their effluent surcharges by 30% and eliminating the cost of disposing of wet solids from their primary screen.
