Hydro MicroScreen™ doubles solids removal for New Jersey jalapeño processor

Side-by-side tests showed that the Hydro MicroScreen™ captured twice as much solid jalapeño by-product as conventional hydrosieve technology.

Situation

A large fruit and vegetable processing plant in southwestern New Jersey was looking to upgrade its primary treatment system. The plant manager needed to reduce both Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and particulate Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) loading.

The plant decided to pilot the Hydro MicroScreen™ ultrafine rotating belt screen, and ran a trial of the system alongside the existing hydrosieve. The trial involved side-by-side operation on the plant's jalapeño processing flow under typical operating conditions. Sample effluent from both systems was sent to a laboratory for independent analysis to verify results.

Outcome

After testing the two systems under real-world conditions the jalapeño process effluent was tested for both TSS and particulate BOD removal.

Laboratory testing showed that Hydro MicroScreen™ removed 63% of TSS, while the hydrosieve removed just 33%. The Hydro MicroScreen™ successfully removed same amount of particulate BOD (47%).
