Hydro-Brake Drop cuts corrosion, complexity and cost for Saudi WWTP project

Three Hydro-Brake® Drop systems cut costs and improved the durability of a 12 km / 7.5 mi sewage pipeline project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Situation

Saudi Arabia's National Water Company needed to transport sewage from Riyadh to the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) at Al Haer.

Problem

Al Haer is some 12 km / 7.5 miles away from Riyadh, across difficult terrain, and the sewage tunnel neeeded to incorporate a drop of 15 m / 49 ft. Additionally, the foul water presents corrision risks for concrete and other conventional building materials.

Solution

Hydro International worked with ILF Consulting Engineers to develop an alternative design using three Hydro-Brake® Drop systems.

Outcome

The Hydro-Brake® Drop solution was a significant improvement over the original design, allowing ILF Consulting Engineers to reduce construction complexity and cost, and to safely transport foul water with reduced corrosion, noise, vibration and noxious gases.
