New bank project cuts stormwater detention costs by $150,000

A Hydro-Brake® Optimum flow control enabled engineers to redesign a stormwater storage tank, cutting labour costs and saving more than $150,000 on the project.

Situation

Chevy Chase Bank of Bethesda, MD set out to open a new branch in Gaithersburg, a town within Montgomery County.

Problem

Water Quality Volume was required to detain stormwater on site, but the smallest allowable orifice would over discharge, resulting in the need to increase the required storage volume by 42%.

Solution

Using the Hydro-Brake® Optimum flow control, Loiederman Soltesz Associates engineers redesigned the stormwater storage system.

Outcome

The Hydro-Brake® Optimum flow control enabled engineers to limit the discharge rate with the entire storage system full, eliminating 100% of the excess storage volume that would have been required with a 2 inch (50 mm) orifice control.

By reducing the volume of the tank and reducing associated construction costs, the Hydro-Brake® Optimum flow control saved over $150,000 on the project.
