Water authority prevents sea pollution
Hydro-Jet® Screen units capture gross solids and prevent pollution from reaching Scotland's sea.
Situation
The North of Scotland Water Authority was developing a new treatment plant at Golspie on the Dornoch Firth.
Problem
Coastal water quality objectives have been set by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency and the European Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive, and environmental conditions such as heavy flow due to melting snow place pressure on the plant.
Solution
Three Hydro-Jet® Screen units were specified to protect overflows from different areas of the village and to eliminate gross solids from the intermittent discharges into the sea.
Outcome
The Hydro-Jet® Screen units can handle flow rates of up to 15 L/s, 200 L/s and 400 L/s, capturing trash and gross solids in line with environmental objectives.
