The Hydro MicroScreen™ demonstrated comparable performance to a conventional rotary drum screen and DAF at a fraction of the cost and in a fraction of the footprint.
A large producer of deli meats in Southwestern Pennsylvania had a complex and expensive wastewater treatment system consisting of rotary drum screens and Dissolved Air Flotation (DAF). After treatment, effluent was discharged to the local sewer system. Plant wastewater had a relatively high BOD, averaging 2,347 mg/L, and of this 34% was soluble.
Facing ever increasing surcharge fees, the plant was looking for a better solution to reduce surcharge and eliminate the complexity of their treatment process on their roast beef processing line.
The plant tested the Hydro MicroScreen™ in a side-by-side performance evaluation against their existing rotary screening and DAF system as an option to potentially replace both the screen and the DAF.
Hydro MicroScreen™ TSS, FOG and BOD removal was comparable to the conventional drum screen and DAF, and the system also output total solids of 24%.
Testing indicated that with the Hydro MicroScreen™ the plant could achieve comparable performance in a fraction of the footprint and at a fraction of the operational cost - improving profitability and freeing valuable space for capacity expansion.
