Control Flow in Drop Structures
Dropping water, whether storm, waste or potable from high levels into deep tunnels can cause costly erosion to the surrounding chamber and supporting structure. Traditional solutions require large expensive structures and can still be suseptible to damaging hydraulic forces.
During a storm event rainwater in a combined sewer can overwhelm a treatment works that could already be operating to its maximum capacity.
During a storm event combined sewers can be overloaded leading to flooding lower down in the catchment.
