Hydro International wins Top Project honours from W&WD for army base project

Hydro International has been awarded Top Project honours from Water & Waste Digest for the grit removal system installed as part of the HRSD Army Base Treatment Plant Phase III project.

The objectives of the $105 million improvement project at the Army Base Treatment Plant in Norfolk, VA for the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD) were to improve nutrient removal, upgrade aging equipment and install a plant-wide distributed control system. Top Project winners were selected based on the variety of obstacles faced and overcome along with their success in meeting project goals.

The improvements to the army base treatment plant included a new preliminary treatment facility with fine screens, raw waste influent pumps, Hydro International grit removal equipment, and new biological process tanks for operation of a five-stage nitrification/denitrification process with biological phosphorous removal.
